Telefonica halts MXN 30 bln bill from Mexico tax authorities

Monday 30 January 2017 | 12:07 CET | News
Telefonica has managed to halt an attempt by Mexico's tax officials to collect some MXN 30 billion in overdue taxes but remains in talks over 20 other open audits, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters. Although Mexican tax agency SAT issued a preliminary assessment of around MXN 30 billion after Telefonica failed to declare all of its income in its 2007 tax return, the operator has now successfully challenged the audit, said the sources. Telefonica angered tax authorities by cutting its tax bill following a merger of some of its Mexican subsidiaries, added the sources.
