Telefonica has signed a new agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to continue their joint efforts to promote the digital transformation of the Latin American economy through to 2020. In a statement, the partners said the scope of the alliance has broadened with the participation of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), boosting the possibilities for joint action on economic, social and digital development projects in Latin America and the Caribbean in collaboration with governments, civil agents and the private sector.

Under the terms of the agreement, Telefonica, the IDB and the IIC will work together on six different courses of action, including smart cities and big data projects, internet accessibility initiatives, entrepreneurial support via the Telefonica Open Future programme and development initiatives in the areas of education, health and security.
