Telefonica Peru to bring FTTH to 600,000 homes in Lima this year

Telefonica del Peru has announced plans to bring fibre-optic services to a total of 600,000 homes in Lima by the end of 2021. The company said around 136,000 homes in the capital can already access FTTH via convergent Movistar Total packages with unlimited mobile data and pay-TV ranging from PEN 180.90 (40Mbps) to PEN 624.90 (1Gbps) a month.

Telefonica recently set up a new vehicle dubbed PangeaCo to manage the expansion of fibre-optic networks throughout the country with a view to bridging the digital divide. The aim is to substantially increase residential internet penetration from the current figure of 40 percent of households nationwide, with levels in the Lima metropolitan area standing at 63 percent compared to just 6 percent in Peru’s interior.
