Telefonica secures Barcelona 2015-16 rights for EUR 140 mln

Telefonica has signed a one-season rights deal with Spanish football club Barcelona for 2015-16, breaking off an eight-year relationship with Catalan-based broadcaster Mediapro. In a statement, the club said it would also be ceding the exploitation of its Barca TV channel to Telefonica, which has committed to maintaining the current format of the channel. Spanish business daily El Economista subsequently reported that Telefonica would be paying Barcelona a set fee of EUR 140 million for the TV rights, plus EUR 40 million in variables for running the thematic channel and using the image rights
