Telefonica is preparing to roll out a new generation of routers for its Movistar-branded residential fibre-optic service that will incorporate a mobile antenna (femtocell) to support the expansion of the company's 5G network in Spain, reports business daily Expansion. The routers are currently at the prototype stage but the operator's aim is to reduce the cost of installing 5G-ready antennas all over the country ahead of the activation of the first commercial networks in 2020. Telefonica intends to carry out trials of the routers this year before rolling out the technology in earnest in 2019
