Telefonica to install 500 connected defibrillators at Aena airports

Wednesday 16 September 2020 | 11:05 CET | News

Telefonica Empresas, the B2B brand of the Spanish operator, has signed a contract to install 500 connected defibrillators at airports managed by Aena throughout Spain. The units will transfer any calls to the airport’s emergency services and will be monitored with mobile technology from Telefonica’s Madrid-based Digital Operations Centre to ensure they are always in perfect condition to attend to any traveller who suffers from a heart attack. Telefonica said the connected defibrillators assess victim’s health and, if there is a cardiac arrest, apply an electric shock for between 3 and 9 minutes to reverse the condition.

Under the terms of the deal, Telefonica will also be responsible for the integral maintenance of the devices to ensure they are constantly available. The deal also envisages the renewal of the devices and an increase in the existing numbers, as well as the installation of semi-automatic defibrillators at smaller airports and the training of non-healthcare personnel to use them if necessary.
