Telefonica to replace Spanish ADSL network with FTTH by 2020

Telefonica plans to further accelerate the deployment of its FTTH network in Spain over the next five years, bringing fibre to all localities with a population over 1,000 inhabitants by 2020, according to Telefonica Espana CEO Luis Gilperez Miguel. Speaking at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Gilperez said the process would involve closing down practically the entire copper network through which the operator provides ADSL services. In addition, starting next year Telefonica will begin installing intermediate nodes to improve the quality of connections in rural areas. Last
