Telefonica to set up disruptive tech division - report

Telefonica is planning to create a new division focusing on the development of disruptive technologies, reports business daily Cinco Dias. The new unit, to be called Innovacion Alpha, will seek to develop innovative products and services in fields such as speech recognition, visual communications and tactile technology. The report adds that the subsidiary will work closely with the R&D arm of the Spanish operator, Telefonica I+D, as well as its Open Future startup programme, present in 17 countries worldwide.
