Telefonica to use several providers for core 5G network - CTO

Tuesday 17 December 2019 | 10:36 CET | News
Telefonica will be shifting away from complete reliance on Huawei for the core of its next-generation mobile networks in Europe, reports Reuters, citing the Spanish company's Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO) Enrique Blanco. Describing the move as "a purely technical decision", Blanco explained that Huawei equipment slots less well into networks composed of various layers from different providers to ensure security of service. "When the core comes from a single vendor, the probability is high that a failure in one part stops the whole network," he said.
