Telenet drops plans for 3G spectrum bid

Telenet has withdrawn as a candidate for Belgium's fourth 3G licence. The operator is also reviewing its position on the 2011 2.6 GHz auction. Telenet has built an LTE test network. The cable operator was also the only company to express interest in expanding the country's digital terrestrial TV, but said it will now reconsider this. This comes amid the threat of regulatory action to open its network to competitors. Telenet has said it will oppose the plans. A spokesman for Telenet noted that infrastructure-based competition already works on the Belgian TV market, making further regulation
