Telenet sees data traffic jump 60 percent due to pandemic

Belgian operator Telenet said its internet traffic has grown this year to a level not expected until 2022. On 15 December, the company handled a new peak of 3.0 Tbps for its 1.8 million customers. While in normal years traffic increases around 30 percent, this year it saw an increase of 60 percent in just ten months. At the same time, phone calls lasted nearly twice as long as the previous average, and the number of video calls doubled.
