Telenor appoints former Deutsche Telekom CEO Obermann to board

Telenor has proposed Rene Obermann, the former CEO of Deutsche Telekom, as a new member of the Norwegian operator's board of directors from 1 January 2018. 

Obermann led the German operator from 2006-2013 and then became head of Dutch cable operator Ziggo until its takeover in 2015. He is since then a partner at private equity firm Warburg Pincus. 

The appointment remains subject to approval by Telenor's supervisory board, which will discuss the nomination on 16 November. Obermann will be a new member on the board, taking the total members to ten.

Telenor benoemt voormalig Ziggo-topman Obermann

Obermann stond van 2006 tot 2013 aan het hoofd van Telekom. Daarna nam hij de functie van CEO bij Ziggo op zich, totdat dit bedrijf in 2015 samenging met UPC Nederland. Sindsdien werkt Obermann als partner bij Warburg Pincus.

Telenor maintains outlook as EBITDA grows 9% in Q3, organic sales up 1%

Telenor maintained its outlook for 1-2 percent organic revenue growth this year, after reporting a 1.0 percent increase for Q3 and 0.8 percent growth for the first nine months of 2017. The operator said it delivered a strong set of Q3 results, as over NOK 1 billion in cost savings this year drove a 9 percent increase in EBITDA.

Telenor board chair admits having asked CEO to step down

Telenor board chairwoman Gunn Waersted said in reply to a question at its press conference that she had talked to CEO Sigve Brekke in autumn about him resigning, according to a report on newspaper Aftenposten's website. This follows media reports about Brekke's time as head of Telenor Asia. Waerstad's response was to a direct question on the subject, and she said the matter is now closed.

Norway govt should demand chairwoman for Telenor board - MP

Minister for Trade and Industry Monica Maeland should demand that Telenor appoints a chairwoman for its board of directors, said head of the Norwegian parliament's trade committee, Geir Pollestad, according to newspaper Dagsavisen on its website. Obermann confirms move to Warburg Pincus

Rene Obermann, the former CEO of Deutsche Telekom, is joining the private equity firm Warburg Pincus as a Managing Director and Partner. Warburg Pincus confirmed the hire and said Obermann will be based at its London office and focus on new investments in the telecommunications, media and technology sector. Spotify adds Rene Obermann to supervisory board

Music streaming service Spotify has appointed former Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann to its supervisory board, Spiegel online magazine reports. Obermann is currently the head of Dutch cable company Ziggo. During his work at Deutsche Telekom he initiated a cooperation with Spotify.
