Telenor Myanmar posted an operating profit of NOK 544 million in the second quarter of 2017, up from NOK 636 million in the year-ago period. The operator's total revenues for the quarter amounted to NOK 544 million, down from NOK 614 million in the same period the previous year. Revenues increased by 7 percent, boosted by continued growth in subscriptions and data usage, parent company Telenor reported.

Telenor Myanmar ended June with a total subscriber base of 18.7 million, up from 16.8 million in June 2016. ARPU declined to NOK 30 from NOK 36 in June 2016. Compared to first quarter of 2017, ARPU decreased by 3 percent. More than 60 percent of the operator’s customers are now active data users, and the average data consumption increased by 69 percent compared to second quarterof 2016.

EBITDA grew by 13 percent, as a result of higher revenues and improved traffic balance, partly offset by increased opex. The cost increase was primarily driven by a higher number of sites on air, and a 15 percent depreciation of local currency against USD, the company added.
