Telespazio, Eutelsat to distribute Ka-Sat broadband in Italy

Eutelsat Communications and Italian satellite services provider Telespazio (a Finmeccanica/Thales company) have signed a strategic agreement for the marketing of broadband services in Italy via the high-capacity Ka-sat satellite. Under the agreement, Telespazio will commercialise Ka-sat-powered broadband services both in Italy and other major European countries and will also be using the same platform to develop new services.

Eutelsat expressed the hope that this new venture would favour increased take-up of services through KA-SAT by Italian telecoms operators while Telespazio said that it would integrate KA-SAT services with existing fixed and mobile solutions to design and offer tailored communication services to its business and institutional customers.

Both companies added that the initiative supported Italy’s Digital Agenda to reduce the digital divide by increasing broadband deployment.
