Telia Company said the Swedish state, as its largest shareholder, has called for an Extraordinary General Meeting with the aim of electing a new board member and a new chairperson to take over from chairwoman Marie Ehrling. The state owns 38.35 percent of the operator. Telia said its nomination committee has proposed Lars-Johan Jarnheimer to succeed Ehrling.
Swedish business paper Dagens Industri commented in its online edition that Ehrling has recently been going against the state’s wishes by trying to execute Telia's acquisition of Bonnier's broadcasting operations, which includes TV4.
Telia nomination board chairman Daniel Kristiansson thanked Ehrling, who has been chair since 2013. He said she contributed "immensely" to Telia, especially with tackling challenges with its Eurasian business and creating a stronger Nordic-Baltic basis.
Jarnheimer was CEO of Tele2 from 1999 to 2008 and has sat on the boards of Egmont, Milllicom and MTG. He has been chairman of the board of Ingka Holding (IKEA) and a board member at SAS.
