Telia Company names CFO Luiga acting CEO

Telia Company announced the appointment of CFO Christian Luiga as acting CEO from 12 September. He replaces Johan Dennelind, who announced in August plans to step down. Dennelind will remain available as an adviser until he leaves the company in 2020 and to assist in closing the acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting. 

Luiga joined Telia in 2009 and headed Corporate Control until April 2014, when he was appointed CFO. Douglas Lubbe, the CFO of Telia Sweden, has been appointed acting CFO of Telia Company. The top management of the company is otherwise unchanged. 

Telia said the recruitment process for a permanent CEO is underway, and as soon as a candidate is confirmed, will be made public.

Telia completes Bonnier Broadcasting acquisition

Telia Company said it has completed the acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting from Bonnier AB. The operator said that as a media owner, it will ensure that continued editorial independence is upheld vis-a-vis the owners, board and management. The state owned 38.4 percent of Telia in June 2019 and when the deal was first announced in July 2018, Prime Minister Stefan Lofven said it was not appropriate for the state to own a terrestrial TV station, meaning TV4.

Telia gains EU approval for Bonnier Broadcasting acquisition with conditions

Telia Company has announced that the European Commission has approved its acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting, including TV4, MTV and C More. The commission said this is conditional on full compliance with a commitments package offered by Telia to ensure competition on the Nordic broadcasting market. The commitments will be applicable in Finland and Sweden for a duration of ten years.

Telia names TDC's Kirkby as CEO from Q2 2020

Telia Company has announced the appointment of Allison Kirkby as its president and CEO from the second quarter of 2020, taking up the position from her role as CEO and president of TDC Group. Christian Luiga will remain as acting president and CEO at Telia until then, before returning to his role as executive vice president and CFO.

Telia nominates new chairperson on request of Swedish state

Telia Company said the Swedish state, as its largest shareholder, has called for an Extraordinary General Meeting with the aim of electing a new board member and a new chairperson to take over from chairwoman Marie Ehrling. The state owns 38.35 percent of the operator. Telia said its nomination committee has proposed Lars-Johan Jarnheimer to succeed Ehrling.

Telia cancels share buyback as service revenue continues lower

Telia has decided to cancel its share buyback programme, in order to save cash for investments and a possible economic downturn. While the group's third-quarter results showed a small improvement compared to the first half, acting CEO and former CFO Christian Luiga said service revenue was improving slower than expected and the outlook for operating cash flow in 2020 was less certain.

Du names Telia's Dennelind as new CEO from 2020

UAE operator Du has appointed industry veteran Johan Dennelind as chief executive, replacing Osman Sultan after almost fourteen years at the helm of the company. He joins from Telia, where he is currently group chief executive. Dennelind will take charge of the telecom operator in early 2020.

Telia Denmark CEO steps down after 15 years

Telia Denmark has announced the departure at the end of August of CEO Morten Bentzen after fifteen years with the company, starting there when it was still owned by Orange. Bentzen said it was a difficult decision but time was now right to try new challenges, adding that he will take time to choose the next step in his career.

Johan Dennelind has announced plans to step down as CEO of Telia Company in 2020 in order to "take on new challenges". He gave 12 months notice as required in his contract, and his exact departure date will depend on when Telia finds a successor.

Telia slows decline in underlying results in Q2, sees better second half

Telia slowed somewhat the decline in results in the second quarter compared to Q1 and said it still expects a steady improvement in the second half of the year, based on efforts launched already and planned for this autumn to stimulate sales. The company said it's also accelerating the roll-out of a new operating model successful at its Swedish business to other countries in order to support its cost-reduction efforts.
