Telia to cut jobs in several countries, trade union expects at least 100 reductions in Sweden

Telia Company is planning job cuts, according to the Swedish radio news service, Ekot, citing CEO Johan Dennelind. Cutbacks will apply in several countries, including Sweden, he said. The operator has met up with Swedish trade unions this morning to discuss which areas will be affected and how many workers, and Seko union vice-chairman Hans Gustavsson said he expects at least 100 Swedish jobs to go.

Ekot said the fourth quarter profit was below analyst expectations. It made currency losses on divestments in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the Sveriges Radio bulletin said. Telia said in its Q4 report that it aims to reduce operating expenses in Sweden by around 3 percent in 2019.

Telia Company said it has issued a bond of EUR 500 million in a fifteen-year deal maturing in February 2034 under its existing EUR 12 billion Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) programme. The re-offer yield was set at 2.153 percent per annum, equivalent to mid-swaps +113 basis points. The Joint bookrunners were Barclays, BNP Paribas, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Natwest Markets.

Telia Sweden provides media connectivity and free Wi-Fi during alpine skiing and biathlon world championships

Telia Sweden said it is providing connectivity for broadcasting and journalists at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Are in the northerly county of Jamtland. The championships begin on 05 February. The operator will also provide free Wi-Fi during the competition, which runs until 17 February, continuing with the biathlon in Ostersund from 05 to 17 March.

Telia Denmark Q4 local currency service revenues dip 2.4%, EBITDA up 8.4%

Telia said that fourth quarter net sales in Denmark, where it shares a mobile network with Telenor, grew by 5.1 percent in reported currency to SEK 1.63 billion but were unchanged in local currency excluding acquisitions and disposals. Service revenues in local currency fell 2.4 percent as a slight growth in mobile service revenues failed to mitigate lower fixed service revenues. Adjusted EBITDA in local currency rose by 8.4 percent.

Telia Norway Q4 local currency EBITDA rises 7.1%, net sales up 0.8% after consolidation of Get and TDC Norway

Telia Norway said that net sales in reported currency rose 38.0 percent year on year in the fourth quarter to SEK 3.69 billion from SEK 2.67 billion but in local currency excluding acquisitions and disposals, net sales rose just 0.8 percent amid pressure on mobile subscription income. In local currency, adjusted EBITDA was up 7.1 percent. The consolidation of Get and TDC Norway during the fourth quarter had a material effect on the figures.

Telia Finland Q4 local currency net sales drop 2.5% year on year, sheds 2,000 mobile users during quarter

Telia said that net sales in Finland increased by 8.4 percent in reported currency in the fourth quarter to SEK 4.08 billion (SEK 3.76 billion) but in local currency excluding acquisitions and disposals, net sales fell by 2.5 percent. Service revenues rose to SEK 3.32 billion from SEK 3.09 billion in Q4 2017 but in local currency, excluding acquisitions and disposals, service revenues declined by 0.2 percent. The operator lost mobile customers during the quarter.

Telia Sweden Q4 service revenues fall amid softer parameters, aims to raise ARPU and cut opex in 2019

Telia Company said net sales in its home market of Sweden declined 3.3 percent to SEK 9.50 billion in the fourth quarter from SEK 9.71 billion a year earlier, amid softer parameters  than the operator had expected. Mobile, TV and fixed broadband ARPU were weak quarter-on-quarter and the company aims to improve ARPU this year or so, as it sees improving trends in 2019 and 2020.

Telia maintains dividend after growth in underlying EBITDA, cash flow in 2018

Telia Company reported fourth-quarter sales up 4.9 percent to SEK 22.21 billion, helped by its takeover of Get and TDC's activities in Norway from October. Service revenues in local currencies, excluding acquisitions and disposals, declined 2.5 percent, as market conditions remained difficult in its biggest market Sweden, offsetting growth in other countries. Adjusted EBITDA rose 3.3 percent to SEK 6.74 billion but was down 5.5 percent in local currencies, after adjusting for acquisitions and disposals.

Telia provides 11,200 home IT support visits in 2018 via TechBuddy

Telia Company said the home technical support service that it began providing in conjunction with TechBuddy in Sweden last February helped 11,200 people in 693 towns last year. TechBuddy provides freelance engineers for help with IT problems. Telia said the most common reason (45%) for calling out a technician was set-up assistance, for example for a new TV receiver, broadband connection or digital television set.

Telia Sweden says residential connected devices rise 33% to 17 units in 2018

Telia Company said that there are now 16.9 connected devices per Swedish household, up by 33 percent compared with 2017. Smartphones and tablets are at the top of the list, but the number of connected speakers and security systems expanded in 2018. Almost one in ten Swedish homes now has a connected speaker, according to data its broadband customers and the service platform Telia Zone.
