
TeliaSonera confirms bid for Polkomtel

TeliaSonera has made an indicative offer for Polkomtel, a spokeswoman for the company confirmed to Reuters. Bids for the Polish mobile operator were due on 21 February. She said advisers to Polkomtel's selling shareholders will now evaluate the bids and are expected to come with a response in March. Polkomtel has also attracted the interest of Telenor, America Movil, Telefonica and Orascom Telecom, and private equity funds TPG and Blackstone were reported to be working on a possible joint bid. These firms, along with Permira, Providence and Polish businessman Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, have received the detailed sales documents for prospective bidders, according to Reuters' sources. Bankers have put a price tag of around EUR 4 billion on Polkomtel, owned by Vodafone and Polish companies PGE, KGHM, PKN and Weglokoks.
