TeliaSonera has decided to drop its plans to sell Spanish mobile operator Yoigo. Yoigo will continue to operate independently during 2013, ADSLzone.net reports, citing unnamed sources close to the matter.
Several operators, including Movistar, Vodafone and Orange, have showed interest in acquiring TeliaSonera’s Spanish unit, but the operation failed to complete mainly due to the high price set by parent company TeliaSonera. According to press reports, the sale price was set at around EUR 1 billion, with an average price of EUR 300 per customer. Yoigo currently serves over 3.5 million customers across Spain.
According to the same sources, the sale process failed also due to the frequency issues. Yoigo's 3G license would have to be given back to the regulator if the buyer already held a 3G license in the country.
