Telkom CEO sees FTTH open-access model extending to DSL

South Africa's fixed-line operator Telkom sees the upcoming launch of its first FTTH services as a test-bed for extending the open-access network model to DSL. Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko told TechCentral that the FTTH open access model will be extended to the company's copper-based DSL network over time. Maseko said consumers will be able to purchase all the components of their broadband service from their Internet service provider for one fixed monthly amount, without having to buy any services directly from Telkom. He added that ISPs must "commit to demand" to make the system work. FTTH
