Telkom CEO to start talks on job cuts

Thursday 10 April 2014 | 12:52 CET | News
South Africa's Telkom is looking to cut ZAR 1 billion in costs per year for the next five years, CEO Sipho Maseko told BusinessDay. Job cuts will be inevitable in order to turn around the operator's results. Maseko said he would begin consulting with unions over the possible retrenchments next week. "It's clear in my mind that Telkom will shed a bit of weight," the CEO said. "We are way out of shape in so far as revenue to staff is concerned. We will have much more thorough conversations."
