Telkom to provide connectivity to schools
South Africa's Telkom Foundation has partnered with the Telkom Knockout to provide connectivity to selected under-privileged schools. Each of the 16 PSL teams competing in the Telkom Knockout Competition will nominate a school for the duration of the competition. The chosen schools of the two teams that reach the final stage of the competition will receive a full computer lab worth ZAR 200,000. Telkom Foundation Trust appoints Nongxa as chairman

South African operator Telkom has announced the appointment of Loyiso Nongxa as chairman of the Telkom Foundation Trust from 01 December. Nongxa is the former Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), a position he held from 2003 until his retirement in 2013. ISPA raises ZAR 150,000 to boost IT training for teachers

The Internet Service Providers' Association (ISPA) has revealed that almost ZAR 150,000 was raised for teacher IT training at the recent Super Teacher Gala Dinner, hosted by ISPA and the CoZa Cares Foundation, which closed this year's iWeek Internet industry conference. The ISPA Teachers Training programme began in 2001 and involves ISPA facilitating several weeks of computer and internet literacy skills training for school teachers in rural schools

Telkom opens IT centre at secondary school

South Africa operator Telkom has opened an IT Centre at Stanger Secondary School, made possible by the Telkom Foundation's Adopt-a-Project initiative. Through the programme, the operator managed the donation of 30 computers and a printer for the creation of the IT centre, valued at ZAR 100,000. The Adopt-a-Project initiative encourages Telkom executives to patron a community project of their choice in various ways through financial support, time and skills contribution.
