Telmex fined MXN 657.4 million for denying interconnection
Mexico's Federal Competition Commission (CFC) fined Telmex MXN 657.4 million for denying interconnection to competitor Axtel, Dow Jones reported. The regulator said Telmex deliberately refused Axtel access to its dedicated links. This violation lasted from August 2009 to June 2011, in 32 cities and on six long-distance routes, inhibiting Axtel's ability to offer service to its clients. Telmex now has 30 days to appeal the ruling.

Salvadoran operators under probe for denying interconnection

The probe follows a complaint filed by Platinum Enterprises. Platinum claims that, since 2010, all five operators have refused to provide it with interconnection for national and international calls terminated in their respective networks.

Nextel urges elimination of interconnection fees in Mexico

Nextel has urged the government to eliminate national long distance and interconnection fees, as part of the secondary legislation for the telecoms sector, local newspaper Informador reports, citing Cristina Ruiz de Velasco, Nextel's VP of institutional relations. Nextel is advocating for the introduction of the 'bill and keep' scheme, that would be "less expensive for operators, generating benefits for end-users", Ruiz de Velasco said. Mexico court ratifies MXN 1.8 mln fine on Nextel

Mexico's 18th Collegiate Court on Administrative Matters of the Federal District has ratified a MXN 1.8 million fine on Nextel, El Universal reports. Mexican consumer protection agency Profeco earlier fined Nextel MXN 1.8 million over illegal charges on telecommunication services not contracted by users. Nextel appealed Profeco's fine and now the court has rejected its appeal.

Consumer body files data privacy class action vs Telmex

Mexico's consumer ombudsman, Profeco, has filed a class action lawsuit against Telmex over the operator charging extra to protect customers' private data, Reuters reports. Profeco accuses Telmex of illegally charging users to protect their personal data, which is a right protected under the constitution. Telmex would not comment on the matter.

Mexican watchdog sues Telmex over illegal charges

Mexico's consumer protection agency Profeco has filed a lawsuit against fixed-line operator Telmex for making illegal charges. According to Rafael Ochoa, a legal expert at the federal prosecutor's office for the consumer (Profeco), Telmex had made unwarranted charges for a privacy service and Profeco had filed the suit with a federal civil court in Mexico City, Reuters reports.
