Telstra to switch off 3G network in June 2024

Wednesday 9 October 2019 | 08:44 CET | News
Australian operator Telstra has announced it will switch off its 3G network in June 2024. Telstra's 3G service (also known as NextG) was switched on in 2006. The 3G network switch-off is designed to free spectrum and use it for the expansion of 5G services, the operator said. Telstra launches its 5G network in May this year, with the release of the first 5G devices in Australia. Telstra's 5G technology is now available in selected sites across 10 Australian cities, and over the next year the operator plans to expand its 5G services coverage to at least 35 Australian cities.
