The Space Alliance, formed by France’s Thales Alenia Space and Italy’s Telespazio, has signed a partnership with US-based company Spaceflight Industries to build and operate a constellation of 60 small high-resolution observation satellites. The deal includes a minority investment in Spaceflight Industries, the creation of an industrial joint venture between Thales Alenia and Spaceflight in the US to produce satellites and an agreement between Telespazio and Spaceflight’s BlackSky business to market their respective satellite data products.

In a joint statement, the partners said the BlackSky geospatial platform is designed not only for traditional customers in the commercial observation market, but also to support the development of new vertical B2B markets such as mining, energy, transport, finance, agriculture, industry and environment, and even B2C. The partners added that the agreement will be finalised pending the required regulatory approvals.
