Third of subs sold in France are sans phone - Orange

Friday 26 October 2012 | 08:39 CET | News
The sale of mobile phone subscriptions without a handset have been stronger than expected and now stand at over 35 percent of new subscriptions, versus an expectation of 12-15 percent. This has resulted in an around 10 percent fall in phone sales, Orange France chairman and CEO Stephane Richard told Les Echos. He also said the company's decision to lower its dividend by 45 percent this year and next was not done out of necessity, but to gain flexibility and to save around EUR 1.5 billion a year. Although carrying EUR 30 billion of debt, the group will accelerate investments in LTE and fibre.
