TI commits to bringing FTTH to 40 cities by 2017 - report

Telecom Italia has committed to using its own resources to bring FTTH to 40 Italian cities by 2017, according to a report in La Repubblica. On the deadline day for operators to express an interest in investing in the country's much-needed broadband expansion, Telecom Italia is said to have informed the Infratel platform of its intentions to go it alone in rolling out fibre infrastructure in the cities in question. The result could be that any attempt by rival operators to access state funds to expand the fibre network could be regarded as illegal state aid by the European Commission, said the
