TIM cannot control single broadband network - minister

A majority shareholder cannot be permitted to control a future single high-speed broadband network, according to a senior Italian minister. "Under a regulatory and antitrust profile, a single network entity that supplies wholesale access services to all operators cannot be in the hands of a single, vertically integrated majority shareholder," deputy industry minister Stefano Buffagni told La Repubblica in an interview. The Italian government is keen to create a "national champion" that would combine Telecom Italia's fibre-based infrastructure with the FTTH network assets owned by wholesaler
