TIM, Olivetti, NTT unveil IoT-based smart water meters

Telecom Italia (TIM), together with its ICT services subsidiary Olivetti and NTT Data Italia have launched a trial system for monitoring drinking water using NB-IoT (narrowband Internet of Things) technology in the southern town of Rende (Calabria). The partners collaborated with the University of Calabria and local utility Acque Potabili Servizi Idrici Integrati to introduce a system that estimates the consumption and demand of water on an hourly basis using a series of new generation meters.
