TIM-Open Fiber merger 'has no merit whatsoever' – Enel CEO

Friday 28 July 2017 | 09:58 CET | News
The chief executive of Italian utility giant Enel has ruled out a possible merger between the company's Open Fiber infrastructure business and that of Telecom Italia (TIM). "I am completely against a merger with Telecom Italia. It's completely useless and has no merit whatsoever," said Enel CEO Francesco Starace during a conference call, according to Reuters. The comments come after some government and opposition MPs said it would make sense for TIM and Open Fiber to team up to avoid duplication of infrastructure in some non-economically viable areas.
