TIM reaches Sardinia rural fibre deal

Italy's state-owned infrastructure firm Infratel has reached an agreement with Telecom Italia (TIM) and Sardinia's regional government to roll out a fibre-optic network connecting 252 digital divide localities on the island. The aim is to bring internet services at speeds of up to 100Mbps to public administrations, municipalities, schools, museums and healthcare facilities in the localities as well as 30Mbps-plus connections to consumers and local businesses via the installation of 1,200 street cabinets.
