TIM (Telecom Italia) has announced plans to accelerate its quadruple play strategy by initiating production of premium content for high-speed broadband customers and by spinning-off the activities of TIMvision, its video-on-demand service. The new unit’s mission will be “to present a video offer enriched with original premium content produced and co-produced both nationally and internationally,” said the company in a statement. TIM CEO Flavio Cattaneo said the aim was to use the exclusive content to support the uptake of fibre consumption by enlarging the offering of IPTV products and services. Further details on the spin-off of TIMvision will be outlined in the company’s 2017-2019 strategic plan, set to be unveiled at the next scheduled meeting of its board of directors on 03 February 2017.
Separately, TIM released a statement announcing that press rumours claiming that TIM is evaluating to return to paying a dividend on ordinary are “completely unfounded”.
