TIM to test Adtran's SDN and NFV technologies on fibre access network

Thursday 30 November 2017 | 10:20 CET | News

Adtran and Telecom Italia (TIM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on the implementation of SDN and NFV technologies and platforms for network automation in the access network segment. Under the terms of the agreement, TIM will evaluate the advantages of Adtran’s Mosaic SD-Access platform applied to its fibre-optic access network. The platform is designed to enable service providers to easily install, commission and select the desired services and confirm the provisioned ones.

Adtran said the ultimate aim of the SDN/NFV platform is to help operators such as TIM face the growth in bandwidth need and customer-driven services, allowing them to better compete with emerging OTT providers operating at web-scale. “With SDN and NFV innovation, operators like TIM can significantly accelerate Gigabit Society goals by launching flexible Gigabit services that dramatically reduce subscriber disruption and time-to-market,” said Adtran’s EMEA and APAC CTO Ronan Kelly.
