TIM unveils 'Super Young 5G' plan with unlimited chat and music data for under 25s

Telecom Italia (TIM) has rebranded and relaunched its offer for younger users, replacing TIM Young with a new plan called TIM Super Young 5G. It’s available to anyone under the age of 25 and comes with unlimited calls and SMS plus zero-rated data for chat, social networking, music, gaming and e-learning. TIM Super Young 5G also includes the TIMmusic service with a catalogue of over 50 million tracks.

It comes with 50GB of data at up to 5G speeds for EUR 11.99 a month when tied to a credit card or bank account, or 25GB on monthly PAYG. Activation fees are EUR 9 for new customers and EUR 19 for existing customers.

Telecom Italia offers free pay-TV with TIM Young plan

Telecom Italia (TIM) is promoting its plan for younger users by offering subscribers free access to its TIMvision streaming package with Disney+ for 6 months. Website Mondo Mobile Web reports that the offer will be available to TIM Young subscribers starting 28 January as long as customers are signed up to the Automatic Top-up option.

Telecom Italia to phase out TIMmusic service from 01 July

Telecom Italia (TIM) has decided to shut down its TIMmusic-branded music streaming service around nine years after its official launch, reports Mondo Mobile Web, citing SMS and emails sent to customers. The platform was first rolled out back in June 2014, although the operator had been offering a music streaming service called Cubomusica since 2011. Its catalogue has since grown to over 50 million songs, with subscribers able to listen without ads and with unlimited skips, even in offline mode.

Telecom Italia doubles TIM Young data to 100GB from under EUR 8 a month

Telecom Italia (TIM) has revamped its offer for younger users, doubling the bundled data and including EU calls for the first time. The TIM Young Full plan for anyone under the age of 25 now comes with 100GB of data at up to 5G speeds on automatic top-up, compared to the 50GB previously available, plus unlimited calls and SMS in Italy and 200 minutes to EU numbers for EUR 7.99 a month when the number is ported from certain operators.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has launched a new promotion for users subscribed to its "TIM Party" loyalty scheme, this time offering 90 days' free access to its TIMmusic streaming service on up to 3 devices. TIM Party members simply have to activate the offer before 31 December to be able to access the TIMmusic catalogue of millions of songs without ad breaks and with unlimited skips for 90 days.

TIM sets up Communication and Digital Media Academy

Telecom Italia (TIM) said it has teamed up with the University of Rome UnitelmaSapienza to create the 'Communication and Digital Media Academy', a new inter-company hub that will offer courses and master's degrees to those working or wanting to work in digital communication, including social media and the web. The aim of the venture is to explore topics linked to the development of communication and digital education, with the partners set to collaborate further through postgraduate schools.

TIM joins forces with '42' coding school to promote digital skills

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced a new collaboration under its 'Operazione Risorgimento Digitale' ('Operation Digital Renaissance') initiative, this time teaming up with coding school 42 Roma Luiss. The partnership will see TIM actively participate in the school's training programme, with the operator committing to make its team of experts and project partners available to students.

Italy to bring fibre broadband to first 5,000 schools by September

State-owned infrastructure agency Infratel Italia confirmed that the first 5,000 schools included in the government's 'Giga Schools Plan' will be connected to a 1Gbps fibre-optic broadband network before the end of September this year. After awarding the first tenders corresponding to the programme earlier this year, Infratel said TIM and Fastweb had committed to connecting around 2,200 schools each in the May-September period, with Intred bringing fibre to an initial 680 schools in Lombardy.

Telecom Italia unveils UniversiTIM initiative to fund PhDs

Telecom Italia (TIM) has teamed up with Italy's top universities to launch an initiative designed to promote research and attract young talent in the field of technologies. Under the UniversiTIM project, the operator will provide financial support for PhD bursaries for the academic years 2020-2023 covering key digitalisation sectors such as 5G, IoT, big data, Artificial Intelligence and cybersecurity.

Fastweb, TIM, Intred awarded Italy school fibre contracts

State-owned infrastructure agency Infratel Italia said it has approved the award of the first seven lots of the tender to bring high-speed fibre services at download speeds of up to 1Gbps to thousands of schools all over Italy. The award comes just a few weeks after the EC said the initiative met EU state aid rules in that the schools that will benefit are located in areas with insufficient connectivity, in line with the bloc's broadband connectivity objectives.

TIMvision tops 2 million users, adds Discovery channels

Telecom Italia (TIM) said its TIMvision video-on-demand service has passed the milestone of 2 million customers, confirming its position as the main aggregator of sports and entertainment content in the Italian TV market. In a statement outlining TIMvision's content offer for 2021, the company also announced a new agreement with longtime partner Discovery to add all Discovery Italia channels and Discovery+ content to its VoD platform at no extra charge to subscribers starting in January.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has enriched its range of tariffs for younger users with the launch of a new prepay plan called Tim Young Student Edition Under 25. It's available to anyone under the age of 26 and comes with unlimited calls and SMS plus 40GB of data at 4.5G speeds for EUR 9.99 a month. The plan also includes zero-rated access to the main chat, social networking and music apps plus leading remote learning platforms such as Skype, Zoom, Amazon Chime, Cisco WebEx, GoToMeeting and Jitsi Meet.
