TIMvision tops 2 million users, adds Discovery channels

Telecom Italia (TIM) said its TIMvision video-on-demand service has passed the milestone of 2 million customers, confirming its position as the main aggregator of sports and entertainment content in the Italian TV market. In a statement outlining TIMvision’s content offer for 2021, the company also announced a new agreement with longtime partner Discovery to add all Discovery Italia channels and Discovery+ content to its VoD platform at no extra charge to subscribers starting in January.

The Discovery deal means TIMvision customers will have access to an additional 8,000 hours of entertainment, plus 3,000 hours of complete series and 2,300 hours of newly released digital content as well as full coverage of the XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo to be held next summer. Last week the operator agreed to support the launch of the US media company’s new Discovery+ streaming platform throughout Italy.

The enhanced partnership with Discovery follows TIM’s exclusive agreement with Disney to offer the latter’s Disney+ streaming service in combination with its offers, joining previous collaborations with Netflix, Sky/Now TV, DAZN, Mediaset, Turner, ViacomCBS Networks Italia, Chili, Amazon Prime Video and VatiVision.

Forthcoming original productions created exclusively for TIMvision include ‘Riccardo Muti Academy’, a docu-talent show featuring the great Italian conductor, ‘OnDance – Le Masterclass’, a 16-episode series with expert teachers guiding viewers through exclusive masterclass in different dance styles, a series for animal lovers called ‘Dottoressa Giordy’ and an educational entertainment programme for primary school children entitled ‘Scuola TIM VISION’, among others.
