TRA says WhatsApp remains blocked

Friday 23 June 2017 | 11:10 CET | News
The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has denied reports that WhatsApp's voice and video calling features have been unblocked in the country. On 22 June, users reported that the call and video features on WhatApp were fully operational, but the TRA said there is no change to the UAE's Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) policy. It said that any applications or services of this type must comply with the framework in the country, where only licensed providers Etisalat and Du are allowed to supply such services.
