True launches 3G, targets 10 mln subs
Thai communications group True is targeting around 10 million users for its 3G and 4G service this year. Most of those, around 6 million, would be existing customers migrating from True's 2G network, with the remainder expected to be new customers, The Nation writes citing chief executive officer Suphachai Chearavanont. The group launched the 2.1 GHz 3G service and 4G service on 8 May under the TrueMove H brand. True's mobile units currently serve 17 million subscribers. The company plans to invest THB 15 billion in 4G and 3G network expansion this year, and has already built 2,000 base stations for 4G, and another 5,000 for 3G. A promotional 4G package was introduced at launch for THB 699 per month, which includes 300 voice minutes and unlimited data services at a maximum speed of 3 Gbps. Rival AIS also launched its 3G services officially this week.
