Turk Telekom claims world speed record in 5G trial

Turk Telekom said it held a live 5G test network with Huawei during which it reached world record-breaking 5G speeds above 2.9 Gbps per second. Turk Telekom said it was also the first operator in the world to test 5G New Radio Carrier Integration technology (NR Carrier Aggregation) with commercial telephones during this trial.

Turk Telekom created a live 5G test network in compliance with the international 3GPP standards made by Huawei at Turk Telekom's Umraniye Teknopark Mobile Network Test Center (Umraniye Teknopark Mobil Sebeke Test Merkezinde). As a result of the trial, the highest 5G speed was reached with the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G smartphone, which has a Turk Telekom 5G compatible SIM card compatible with 3GPP standards.

The broadcast was transmitted in 4K resolution via the live 5G test network established by Turk Telekom with Huawei. The 360-degree cameras were provided by the local design software firm Garage Atlas.

Turk Telekom enriched its Demand Side Platform (DSP) for advertisers with the addition of a Supply Side Platform (SSP) for publishers. Turk Telekom launches Red Cross donation app

Turk Telekom and Red Cross Turkey (Turk Kizilay) launched a donation system (Abonelikli bagis sistemi) that allows Turk Telekom users to donate TRY 10 to Red Cross Turkey on a regular basis by sending a single SMS. The donation's amount will be automatically added to end-users' invoices each month or deducted from their prepaid balances. The users only need to send a SMS to 3965 to donate money to the organisation.

Turk Telekom revenues increase 15% to TRY 6.2 bln in Q3

Operating profit increased by 39.6 percent YoY to TRY 1.8 billion. Net income was TRY 1.117 billion in Q3, with a significant turnaround compared to a net loss of TRY 2.846 billion in Q3 2018, thanks to strong operating performance, disciplined opex management and favorable FX environment.

Ericsson, Turkcell enter 5G use cases MoU

Ericsson and Turkcell entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enabling the implementation of new 5G-related use cases that will emerge across various industries in Turkcell network. The two partners agreed to jointly create a variety of 5G use cases for different industries. Ericsson has 70 commercial 5G agreements or contracts with unique communication service providers, of which 20 are live networks.

Turk Telekom enters deal to renew corporate governance rating

Turk Telekom said it entered into an agreement with Saha Kurumsal Yonetim ve Kredi Derecelendirme Hizmetleri (Saha) to renew its corporate governance rating. The agreement will be valid until 24 October, 2020. Saha is authorised to conduct corporate governance rating in compliance with Corporate Governance Principals of Capital Markets Board.

Turk Telekom rolls out Lifemote WiFi analytics

Turk Telekom deployed Lifemote, a SaaS platform for ISPs that uses AI to proactively find and fix home network issues before subscribers complain. Turk Telekom will start using Lifemote analytics in homes in 2019, with a full rollout planned starting in 2020. In order to fully comply with Turk Telekom requirements, Lifemote undertook a full integration of its system in the private Turk Telekom cloud earlier in 2019.

Turk Telekom enters long term loan deal with BNP Paribas

Turk Telekom entered into a long-term loan agreement with BNP Paribas under the insurance coverage of Finnvera (Finnish export credit agency) in order to finance the company's and its subsidiaries' capital expenditures. The amount of the facility is EUR 140 million, the final maturity is June 2029 with an average maturity of 4.2 years. The interest rate is Euribor + 0.25 percent per annum and total cost including the other upfront costs and insurance premium is Euribor + 2.24 percent per annum.

Turk Telekom to issue Turkish Lira denominated debt instruments as bonds totaling up to TRY 1 bln

Turk Telekom said it will issue Turkish Lira denominated debt instruments within the domestic market to be sold to qualified investors without public offering, in single or multiple tranches. These will be issued with different maturities up to maximum 5 years and in the form of bonds or bills not exceeding TRY 1 billion in total. The company said it will apply to Capital Markets Board for the issuance of debt instruments.

Turkcell hits 2.283Gbps speed over 5G-enabled smartphone

Turkcell said it reach the world record speed of 2.283Gbps and also created Turkey's first 5G signal over a 5G test network using a 5G-compatible smartphone. The speed test yielding download speeds of 2.283Gbps was conducted on a smartphone compatible with the allocated 3.5GHz frequency using 100 MHz bandwith. The top speed recorded in the test was 2.283Gbps in Turkcell's 5G-field in Istanbul.

Turk Telekom and Huawei joined forces to test VR and AR educational technologies over 5G. Turkey organises first 5G open field test at lab in Ankara

Turkish telecommunications authority BTK organised the country's first 5G open field test at the '5G BTK Market Surveillance Laboratory' located in the campus of Ankara's Hacettepe University. The test was attended by industry representatives, including local operators Turk Telekom, Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey.
