Turkcell accuses MTN of defamation over Irancell case

Turkish mobile phone operator Turkcell has filed a USD 100 million defamation suit against MTN for releasing "false statements" that have caused "irreparable harm" to its reputation. According to IT Web, the claims form part of a broader USD 4.2 billion lawsuit filed in a US court by Turkcell last month, in which it accuses MTN of improper dealings in its 2004 acquisition of a GSM licence in Iran. MTN's response was published in the form of a statement on 12 March. Turkcell says this "knowingly and intentionally" accused it of extortion and refusal to co-operate with an independent
