TV White Space network deployed in California's Gold Country

The nation's first independently-funded TV White Space (TVWS) broadband network has been deployed in California's Gold Country. White-Spaces are unused TV channels, whose signals can travel over rough, tree-laden terrain, offering rural customers Internet access. El Dorado County wireless internet provider, Cal.net, pioneered the effort, along with Arcata-based RF design firm, Carlson. Carlson and Cal.net formed an alliance and were granted Special Temporary Authority by the FCC the validate the efficacy of the product in real-world scenarios.
