U-blox launches SARA-R5 cellular modules for IoT applications

Wednesday 12 June 2019 | 09:59 CET | News

Swiss wireless module maker U-blox has launched SARA-R5, a new cellular product in its series of LTE‑M and NB‑IoT modules for low power wide area (LPWA) IoT applications.

The module is built on the UBX‑R5 cellular chipset and M8 GNSS receiver chip. It has a lightweight and low power pre‑shared key (PSK) management system also for IoT applications, along with a set of security features. It offers end‑to‑end security, long product availability and the possibility to upgrade the software for 5G use.

The module is offered in two different variants. The SARA‑R511M can be used for mobile applications in the automotive, fleet management, tracking and telematics sectors through its built‑in u‑blox M8 GNSS receiver, which include a GNSS antenna interface. The second variant, SARA-R510M, can be used for smart city, connected health, security and surveillance, applications among others, due to a low power consumption.
