Uber starts driverless taxi trial, buys truck startup Otto

Uber said it has acquired Otto, a self-driving truck startup with over 90 employees. Otto co-founder Anthony Levandowski will head Uber and Otto's combined self-driving efforts and report directly to Uber CEO and co-founder Travis Kalanick. Operations will be located in San Francisco, Palo Alto and Pittsburgh and cover transportation, delivery and trucking. Uber will also continue to put its focus on ride-sharing. Uber did not give any financial amounts but Recode put the acquisition price at USD 680 million in stock, with Otto to give 20 percent of its trucking profits to its new parent
