Ugandan regulator gives telecoms firms 2 years to list at least 20% of shares on local bourse

Uganda has ordered telecoms operators to list on the bourse to encourage local ownership of the sector, Reuters reported. Ibrahim Bbosa, spokesman for the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), said it is using a new licensing policy, and existing operators would be issued with new licences with new conditions. The operators, which include MTN and Airtel, have been given two years to list at least 20 percent of their shares.
