UK culture minister asks web firms to meet govt halfway

The UK's minister for culture and the digital economy, Ed Vaizey, has called on interenet companies to meet the government halfway over cyber security and encryption, rather than reacting with accusations that politicians do not understand the technology, the Guardian reports. Vaizey backed prime minister Cameron's controversial statement on whether the use of strong encryption technology should be "allowed" for anti-surveillance purposes.
