Unicef, ARM sign technology development partnership
Unicef and chipmaker ARM have announced a multi-year partnership to accelerate the development of new technologies that would help people gain better access to basic health, education and support services. The partnership's first action is to collaborate with design firm frog on a 'Wearables for Good' challenge, to generate ideas for new and innovative devices that could support maternal and child health needs in emerging economies. Two winners will be selected. Each will receive USD 15,000 funding alongside incubation and mentorship support from ARM and frog. The 'Wearables for Good' design challenge went live on 19 May.

ARM increases dividend 25% after strong Q2

ARM Holdings reported second-quarter revenues up 15 percent year-on-year to USD 357.1 million and improved its adjusted operating margin to 52.9 percent from 48.9 a year ago. The company's pretax profit jumped 39 percent to GBP 94.7 million or 5.42 pence per share, and ARM increased its interim dividend by 25 percent to 3.15 pence per share. Over 3.4 billion ARM-based chips shipped in the second quarter, up 26 percent year-on-year. This helped drive a 31 percent increase in ARM's processor royalty revenue.

STM, ARM create lab initiative for China universities

STMicroelectronics and ARM announced the creation of an innovation lab initiative to promote the ARM mbed and STM32 technologies in China. The collaboration will develop and expand the Chinese engineering community focusing on global Internet-of-Things (IoT) opportunities. Eighteen polytechnic universities across China already joined the programme, which is also supported by the Association of Fundamental Computing Education in Chinese Universities.
