United Internet CEO calls on internet providers to set up fibre alliance

The founder of United Internet, Ralph Dommermuth, has called on internet providers in Germany to establish a joint company to build up Germany's broadband network and challenged Deutsche Telekom to support the venture, reported Reuters. Dommermuth said in an interview with German media that the industry needs to take the initiative in laying a fibre network across Germany. The CEO of United Internet said he estimates that the total cost of providing nationwide fibre-optic internet access will top EUR 80 billion, much more than the EUR 10-12 billion in subsidies promised by the incoming German
