Unitymedia completes analogue switch-off

German cable operator Unitymedia announced that it successfully completed the switch-off of its analogue TV services, freeing up spectrum for more digital services.

Analogue TV was shut down gradually over the past five weeks in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, at 56 network nodes, and Unitymedia now offers exclusively digital TV across its footprint. Unitymedia said the switch-off went smoothly, thanks to an extensive communication campaign prior to and during the changeover.

From the end of August, the operator will start migrating services to the newly available spectrum. Digital TV channels will migrate to lower frequency ranges, while the Docsis channels for data transmission will move into a higher frequency range. Customers will be required to re-tune their receivers to take account of the changes.
