Unlicenced low power M2M connections to hit 400 mln by 2022

The total number of connections using an unlicenced spectrum to deliver low power M2M connectivity is set to grow from around 50 million by the end of 2018 to nearly 400 million by 2022, according to a report from Juniper Research. Connections using these technologies, such as Sigfox, LoRa and Ingenu, are thus expected to increase by some 736 percent over the surveyed period, with these low-cost unlicenced alternatives to mobile technologies such as NB-IoT and LTE-M threatening operators' return on investment.
