UPC Austria merges with UPC Cablecom
Liberty Global is bringing UPC Austria and Swiss operation UPC Cablecom into one new regional organisation, headed by Eric Tveter, currently CEO of UPC Cablecom. He takes up the new role on 01 August and the regional organisation will have its headquarters in Zurich. UPC Austria manager Thomas Hintze becomes chairman of the Austrian operation and will report to Tveter. The aim is to support their future growth, it said, with both operations benefiting from efficiencies of scale. The Austrian and Swiss sister companies have already been working together, it added.

UPC Cablecom to cut 250 jobs by 2018

The newly founded regional organisation of UPC Cablecom and UPC Austria have agreed on restrucuring measures that include the loss of 250 jobs by 2018. UPC Cablecom Q3 revenues up 4.3%

Swiss cable operator UPC Cablecom reported revenues for the third quarter of 2014 up by 4.3 percent year-on-year to CHF 323 million. Hofer to present MVNO plans before end of 2014

Austrian supermarket chain Hofer will present its MVNO service this year but start providing it at the beginning of 2015, Der Standard reported on its website, citing sources close to the company. Hofer will be backed by Michael Krammer, formerly head of Telering and Orange. It will use the T-Mobile network. Krammer's own operator, Ventocom, is planning a come-back as a mobile provider in 2015, but Der Standard said it is not known under what brand name.

UPC Austria said it will be providing internet with downloads at up to 250 Mbps from autumn under its Top F.I.T. service, and is offering promotional discount of up to 40 percent. UPC Austria adds 9,200 RGUs in Q2

UPC Austria lost 2,100 customers in the second quarter for a total 648,500 at the end of June. Revenue-generating units were still up by 9,200 in the three months to 1.330 million, thanks to growth in broadband and telephony. TV subscribers fell by a net 2,600 to 523,100, with the loss of 15,700 analogue subscribers not quite offset by the addition of 13,100 digital users. UPC Cablecom reaches over 700,000 internet customers

Swiss cable operator UPC Cablecom added 43,200 subscriptions in first-half 2014 to reach a record 2.58 million. The company has now reached over 700,000 internet subscribers for the first time. Revenue increased by CHF 19.2 million or 6.3 percent to CHF 324.8 million in the second quarter. Cable operator Liberty Global reported second-quarter revenues up 51 percent from a year earlier to USD 4.6 billion, driven by its takeover of Virgin Media and positive currency effects. UPC Austria completes Pircher Media network integration

Liberty Global subsidiary and cable network operator UPC Austria has completed the integration of Pircher Media's network at the end of June of this year. The network in Voralberg was acquired in January and all customers have been transferred to UPC Austria's services including 250 Mbps broadband and up to 120 TV channels including 21 in HD.

UPC cablecom completes backbone upgrade

Liberty Global subsidiary and Swiss cable operator UPC cablecom as completed the expansion of its fibre backbone network in Ticino. This enables the operator to offer more than 2 million households connected to its network download speeds up to 250 Mbps. The speeds can be upgraded when demand grows to 500 Mbps. The operator also said that the data usage among its customers has grown by 30 percent during the past twelve months.

UPC Cablecom takes full control of another cable network

Swiss cable company UPC Cablecom has taken over the Tele-Pregny-Chambesy (TPC) cable network in the canton of Geneva, effective 01 July. Up until now, the municipality of Pregny-Chambesy and three private shareholders held a 75 percent stake in TPC. They have now sold their shares to UPC Cablecom, which already held a 25 percent stake. The network serves around 600 homes.
