UPC Poland deploys Docsis 3.1 to launch 1 Gbps broadband by year-end

UPC Poland announced plans to implement the network upgrade Docsis 3.1, supporting broadband speeds up to 10 Gbps. Poland shall become the second country after Germany within the group Liberty Global to launch gigabit speeds, with a local launch planned by the end of the year. Access to the gigabit network is supported by the company's Connect Box router, used by 430,000 clients, the Smart WiFi system with Boosters and the application Connect App.

For many years, the cable operator has been investing in fibre in its network, which covers 3.3 million households. During the past ten years, the operator has increased the download speed 17-fold to 500 Mbps. The median speed, used by 1 million clients, has increased three-fold during the past five years to 130 Mbps, as of end-Q1.

UPC Slovakia launches gigabit internet

UPC Slovakia has launched internet services with a download speed of up to 1 Gbps in the capital Bratislava and two neighbouring cities, Pezinok and Svaty Jur. The high speed can be provided thanks to implementation of Docsis 3.0 and the Giga ConnectBox, including Smart Wi-Fi software, which allows an optimal and fast connection of every device in the household to the operator's broadband network.

UPC Poland implements free Wi-Fi in Warsaw airport business lounges

UPC Poland's business division has implemented dedicated free Wi-Fi in two business lounges of the Polish airlines Lot at the Chopin airport in Warsaw. The business lounge for the Schengen zone has existed since 2015 and in 2018, a second one was added. The lounges are open every day from 05:00 hrs to 23:00 hrs and serve 300,000 passengers a year. In February, they welcomed their millionth passenger.

UPC Poland launches gigabit broadband service in Warsaw

UPC Poland announced the launch of its first gigabit broadband service, available initially in Warsaw. This makes it the second operator in the Liberty Global group to offer gigabit connections, after Unitymedia in Germany, and the first to offer such speeds on a mass scale in Poland.

UPC Poland refreshes internet offer, sets minimum speed at 150 Mbps

UPC Poland has refreshed its internet offer, setting a new minimum speed of 150 Mbps. Existing customers will also be migrated to the new speeds, reports Media2.pl. In addition, the company is introducing shorter contracts and additional channels in the Select TV plan.

UPC Poland has added the conservative TV channel wPolsce.pl HD to its offering. The channel will be part of the packages Select and Max. The number of UPC Poland's HD channels will thus grow to 125.

UPC Poland reaches 500,000 users of Connect Box

UPC Poland announced that its Connect Box router, first introduced in 2016, is used by 500,000 of the operator's total subscriber base of more than a million. In May, there were 430,000 users of the device.

Unitymedia Business prepares to activate 200 Mbps internet for Dusseldorf schools

Liberty Global's German subsidiary Unitymedia Business is preparing to connect 180 state-run schools in Dusseldorf to its fibre network as part of its school initiative "HighSpeed Classroom". The company said it will activate connections at 70 schools in the city by the end of July, with the remainder scheduled to be connected to Unitymedia's network by the end of 2018.

Cologne and Dusseldorf set to become Unitymedia's next Gigabit Cities

German cable operator and Liberty Global subsidiary Unitymedia announced that Cologne and Dusseldorf are set to become the next Gigabit Cities as part of the company's Gigabit City initiative at the 2018 ANGA COM in Cologne. The two cities in North Rhine-Westphalia will follow Bochum and Frankfurt as Unitymedia's flagship projects for its gigabit roll out, with the first households and companies in Cologne and Dusseldorf set to have access to internet at speeds over 1 Gbps by December 2018.

From 1 June, UPC Poland created a new position, Country Sales Field Director, appointing Iwona Sowinska. She joins from cable operator Vectra, where she worked as a Macroregion Director and was responsible for direct sales channel management.

Liberty Global selects Vector Technologies optical nodes, amplifiers

Liberty Global has selected Vector Technologies' optical nodes (Boostral) and amplifiers (Hargon) to roll out its services across Europe. The implemented elements are compliant with the DOCSIS 3.1 specification and allow to achieve a downstream frequency up to 1.2 GHz. Vector Technologies has a long partnership with Liberty Global. In cooperation with Vector Technologies, UPC wants to pave the path to gigabit speed tiers across its HFC network.

Unitymedia runs promotion on business tariffs for SMEs

Unitymedia Business is running a promotion on its Office Internet & Phone 150 tariff for small office and self-employed persons to offer customers faster internet for the same price. During the promotion, the Office Internet & Phone 200 will provide download speeds of up to 200 Mbps and upload speeds of 20 Mbps for EUR 34.90 per month over 24 months plus an installation fee of EUR 99.90.

Germany cable operator Unitymedia said it is now offering customers HD telephony at no extra cost on its fixed-line network. UPC Poland increases RGUs in Q1, mainly in internet, telephony

UPC Poland increased the number of two-way homes passed by 21,600 during Q1 to 3.32 million at the end of March. The number of customers went down by 16,100 during Q1 to 1.43 million but the number of RGUs increased by 7,200 to 2.99 million. The operator reported additions since December in internet subscribers by 5,500 to 1.15 million and telephony by 4,100 to 634,000.
